Willman starts season off in Awesome Fashion.
John Willman finished third Friday night at Big Diamond Raceway, not satisfied; he finished first in the modified feature Saturday at Grandview speedway. “Wow I’m totally psyched for the 2010 racing season, commented a smiling Willman, “My cars, sponsors, team, everything is really good right now.”
Willman, from Birdsboro PA, started on the pole for the 358-modified feature Friday evening at Big Diamond with race winner Craig VonDohren on the out side. John took the lead on a lap two restart before being passed on lap 4. John ran second until lap 15 when Duane Howard got by him eventually finishing third after 25-laps.
“The track was rough Friday night, “commented John, “my 2009 Bicknell race car ran very good and I’m real happy with that finish.” Willman drove his E-Z Release Pro Shops, Install America, Hampton Brothers Truck Repair, Lombardo powered #74W modified.
The weekend only got better Saturday evening at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville Pa. Willman started on the pole in the second heat race leading all 12 laps to score a convincing win. “I picked some good starting spots this weekend,” said Willman, “It helps to be lucky”. Willman also picked the #1 starting position for the 30-lap NASCAR modified feature event but this race win was hardly easy.
Billy Pauch Jr. put the No. 11 in front of the 29 car Modified starting field at the drop of the green and set the pace for the early laps. On the fourth circuit of the one-third-mile, banked clay oval Ryan Godown charged to the front and looked like he was well on his way to a win until the 17th lap when a flat tire sent him to the pits and gave the lead back to Pauch. At 18 laps John Willman was able to grab the top spot on a restart after a caution.
At 22 laps Godown had a wheel come off putting him out of action. On the restart Willman was again able to charge to the front holding off the strong effort of Duane Howard. At the finish Willman was just a narrow margin in front of Howard earning just his third career victory at Grandview Speedway driving his Bicknell chassis, Hammer Bowling Ball, J C’s Landscaping, Gene Willman Auto Repair, RacePlace Hobbies, Penske Shocks, Bell Helmet, Valken Wheels modified.
“I got by Pauch on the restart and here I am in Victory Lane, what a great night, said the excited race winner, To win the first night out in my new car just keeps the great momentum going I have in 2010.”
Willman started off the year signing Install America, a window, siding, roofing company located in Reading Pa, as a new sponsor. More information may be had by calling 1-866-670-5213 or going to INSTALL AMERICA.NET.
“I spent some time this winter making my car look real good and I had it at the Motorsports trade show in Oaks Pa, and other mall shows, Joe Adams lettered the car real nice. Weikel sportswear also created some cool shirts for me.”
Willman then signed E/Z RELEASE bowling Pro shops in February and things have been rolling well. “Warren & Joy Floyd with E/Z Release have made a big difference to my team,” said Willman, who plans on continuing the good season Friday evening at Big Diamond and Saturday at Grandview.
