2013 has proved to be the
toughest year in the racing world for the 20 year old Pennsylvania native, After
a delayed start to the 2013 season due to Austin having major knee surgery in
January and having to delay the season until May. Austin came out of the box
strong winning 4 out of his first 5 races along with a runner up finish in the
Legends Modified season on dirt. Then Austin continued his early season form in
the prestigious Summer Shootout series at Charlotte Motor Speedway opening up
the 10 round series with a 3rd and 2nd place finish in the first two rounds!
Then the bad luck began in Rd.3 of the Summer Shootout, Austin was running in
the top 10 early in the race when his engine blew up catching on fire and being
hit head on by another car breaking Austin's wrist. Even while Austin had to sit
out the bad luck continued with Austin trailer being struck by lightening and
burning it to the ground. Austin returned to the track on Monday night 7-29 for
the Rd. 9 race of the Summer Shootout and the luck looked like it had finally
turned back in the other direction. Austin had a strong start to the feature
event after a quick yellow flag the strong 25 car field of Semi Pro drivers
began to log laps and Austin was running in the 6th position on lap 22 of the 30
lap event with the top 5 cars in sight. Austin and the top 5 cars were working
heavy lap traffic when the race director told the #10 car of Courtney Lefcourt
to go high to give the bottom line to the lead pack. The 10 car stayed on the
bottom through turns 1 and 2 before not looking in her mirrors and turning right
up in front of Austin coming of turn 2 and putting Austin and another driver in
the back stretch wall ending the night and re breaking Austin's wrist and the
other driver's hand.We caught up with Austin after he got out of the ambulance-
'' I was pacing myself for the final 10 laps running in the 6th spot being
patient waiting to make my move and then coming out of turn 2 the #10 car made a
right hand turn continued to pull up in front of me, I tried to check up and I
got out of the gas but when I did the #77 car behind me got into me turning us
both in the wall. This is the most frustrated I have ever been at the track, we
can't catch a break lately.''Austin left the track and had to go to the hospital
where he learned his wrist had been re broken. Austin will have to sit out for a
few more weeks missing the final round of the Shootout and the prestigious race
at the famous Bowman Gray Stadium. Austin and the whole team would like to thank
his awesome sponsors for standing behind him during this rough patch
