Mother Nature proved once again she is not a race fan, with a near 100%
of rain showers forcing Big Diamond Speedway to cancel their racing
events for this evening. That makes 3 out of the last 4 Friday evenings
where wet weather put a damper on local racing events.
The
Sportsman division has been affected the most by the rainouts - going 0
for 3 for their scheduled racing events on the 3/8 mile oval. Because
of this, management has decided to run a special Sunday afternoon show
for the USS Achey Sportsman and Savage 61 Roadrunner divisions this
coming Sunday, April 27th. Gates will open at 11:30 AM for this special
event, with warm-ups at 1:00 PM and the first heat scheduled to hit the
track at 1:30 PM sharp. This will be a non-points event for both
division, and both Hoosier and American Racer tires will be legal for
this event. If the Sportsman division gets more than 24 cars, the 20
lap feature event will pay $1,000 to win. If the car count is 24 or
less cars, the winners share will be reduced to $600 to win.
Grandstand
admission for this event will be a flat rate of $10.00 per person. As
always, kids 12 and under are admitted free of charge. Pit
participation fees are $30.00 for members and $40.00 for non-members.
The
following Friday, May 2nd, racing returns to Big Diamond Speedway
featuring the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic 358 Modifieds, Jeremy Slifko
Fabrication Services Late Models, and Savage 61 Roadrunners, along with
the EXCEL 600cc Modifieds. Gates open at 5 PM, warm-ups are at 7:45 PM,
and the first heat hits the track at 8:15 PM.
