Mother
Nature has been having a field day with the dirt track racing in PA! We
were able to get to the track some weeks but more often than not we
found ourselves watching the rain fall instead of the dirt flying. We hope to bring you much better racing action news as the season continues.
Selinsgrove, PA – June 9, 2018 – First race of the season is always an exciting time, April 14th
at Port Royal Speedway was no different for Dan Green and Team. The
Arctic Cat All-Star Circuit of Champions invaded the speedway for the
Keith Kauffman Classic which had the Sprints and Super Late Models on
the race program. It was the first Moon Shine Camo Rt 35 Series Race for
the Super Late Models, a 6 race series between Port Royal and
Selinsgrove Speedways.
Lucas Oil Late Model Series
Dan
and the team made their first ever Lucas Oil Late Model Series race at
Port Royal Speedway to learn what they could from the Professionals. 43
Super Late Models were in the pits trying for the 25 A-Main starting
spots. Dan, driving the Hot Rod Processing #46, had a respectable night
in only his second year driving the Super Late model class, but
unfortunately didn’t qualify for the A-main as several other local Top
competitors didn’t either.
First Points Race At Selinsgrove Speedway
Selinsgrove Speedway will be G & H Motorsports’ home track and April 28th
was their first point race for the Late Models. Dan had a rough start
to the night, in the Heat race the front end of the NGK Spark Plug #46
buckled under the right front sending Dan to the outside turn 2 wall.
The crew went to work and replaced the bumper for the feature event. As
Dan was getting faster with each lap the motor didn’t want to finish the
25 lap event, as with 3 laps to go it gave the fans a fiery show as
flames shot out from under the hood of the car going into turn 3 and
came to a stop in turn 4, giving the team a 13th place
finish. Luckily the team had a couple weeks off as the backup motor had
problems when they installed it. The backup to the backup went in the
car and we arrived to Selinsgrove on May 27th.
May 27th at Selinsgrove Speedway
After weeks of rain the team was ready to race again with optimism knowing that racing is an up and down sport. Dan finished 7th
in his heat and was running well in the feature until a water fitting
broke and sprayed Dan with water ending the night 11 laps in the books
for a 16th place finish. We all hope this is the end of the rain as well as the parts failures that seem to have plagued the beginning of this season!
Next Event!
Dan will be on the track on Saturday June 9 at Selinsgrove Speedway,
our weekly point season, weather permitting! It’s been a very wet
season for outdoor sports in 2018 so we are all hoping for much better
weather the remainder of the year. Please check our Facebook page or
website for more information! Full Schedule is here! (http://www.dangreen46.com/page29.html)
Friends at Other Tracks:
This
season seems to be the same for our closest race friends at other
tracks! Either it’s been raining or there have been parts failures that
are keeping them from having the start of 2018 they expected as well! Grandview
Speedway (our former home track) track workers and drivers/teams made
an extraordinarily valiant effort last week (6/2) to get the race in but
after a long attempt to run the track in had to give up when another
round of showers hit the dirt. That
is the one thing about these banked dirt tracks.....they can take a
little but then gets pretty slippery and dangerous to keep trying.
So
on to the next Saturday show and hope we beat the rain! No more
checkered flags for Mother Nature if the racing community has anything
to say about it.....everyone please keep your fingers crossed!
